Sign requirements for planning applications

Pink exhibition signs are required for public notification of the following application types in accordance with the Planning Act 1999 and Planning Regulations 2000:

• development (D) or subdivision (S)
• exceptional development (EDP)
• planning scheme amendment (PSA) – rezoning
• concurrent (CA) – rezoning and development or subdivision.

Signs include a large QR code that links to the Development Applications Online website.

Before exhibition

You can collect signs on business days between 8am and 4pm. Go to a Department of Lands, Planning and Environment office:

Once your planning application is scheduled for public exhibition, you will receive an email with a link to the Guidelines for Public Notice of an Application, available through your Development Applications Online account.

During exhibition

Signs must be:

• displayed by 8am on the exhibition start date
• displayed on or within a reasonable distance from each public road frontage of the land subject to the application
• clearly visible from the nearest public road
• secured with wire or zip-ties to the boundary fence, star pickets or similar to avoid wind damage or unauthorised removal.

In some instances, you may be given a map indicating where signs should be placed.

Signs must stay in place for the exhibition period of 14 or 28 days.

After exhibition

After the exhibition ends, signs must be removed within one week.

Dispose of your signs responsibly.

You will receive an email to complete a signage declaration on the Development Applications Online website.
