Building a safer, stronger, prosperous Territory
The Northern Territory (NT) Government has set a clear plan for the future through 3 major strategies for:
- reducing crime
- rebuilding the economy
- restoring the Territory lifestyle.
These strategies are the foundation of the Territory Government’s agenda.
They will work together to create a safer, stronger and more prosperous NT, a place where more people want to live, work, visit and invest.
Reducing Crime: Northern Territory Crime Reduction Strategy
The Northern Territory Crime Reduction Strategy sets the Government’s plan to reduce crime for a safer, stronger and more liveable Northern Territory.
It focuses on:
- preventing crime before it occurs
- holding individuals, families and communities accountable
- creating consequences for people who commit crimes
- promoting the voices of people affected by crime.
Priorities
The strategy’s priorities aim to:
- create a safer community
- reduce reoffending and deliver effective justice
- hold parents and families to account
- address the root causes of crime
- reform and strengthen the criminal justice and key support service systems.

The NT Government’s Economic Strategy outlines a plan for rebuilding the economy over the next 3 years.
It focuses on developing an economy that:
- grows faster than the national average
- plays to the Territory’s strengths in high-growth sectors
- benefits all Territorians by creating real opportunities and funding essential services.
Priorities
The strategy has 5 priorities and 20 initiatives already in action, aimed at:
- boosting investment
- building a skilled workforce
- strengthening the national economy
- unlocking regional growth
- delivering enabling infrastructure and networks.

The Restoring the Territory Lifestyle Strategy outlines the Government’s vision to make the Territory lifestyle the envy of the nation.
It focuses on:
- making the Territory the best place to enjoy high-quality nature and outdoor recreation activities
- celebrating our ‘can do’ spirit, proud identity, unique culture and heritage
- improving infrastructure for sport and recreation
- improving affordability
- supporting Territorians to be happier and healthier throughout their lives.
By enhancing liveability and community connection, more people will be attracted to and remain in the Territory. This will support economic growth and strengthen social cohesion to create safer communities.
