Water and sewerage concessions

If you’re a member of the Northern Territory (NT) Concession Scheme, you can claim a concession on water and sewerage costs where you live.

Only one member’s concession can be applied per household. How it’s calculated will depend on your property type.

Your claim must be made within:

  • 6 months of incurring the cost or
  • the financial year - whichever is greater.

The maximum water and sewerage concession you can claim is $800 and $486.12 per household, per financial year.

To be eligible to receive a concession for water and sewerage, you must be:

  • the primary account holder or
  • financially responsible.

If you're the primary account holder, you must provide Power and Water Corporation with your membership number so they can apply the concession.

If you’re financially responsible for the account, find out how to claim.

How the concession is claimed

The concession for:

  • water is calculated on a fixed daily rate of $0.96 per day plus $0.955 per kilolitre used
  • sewerage is calculated on a fixed daily rate of $1.332 per day.

This only applies if you can show evidence of water consumption by kilolitre.

You will stop receiving your concession when you reach the water concession cap of $800.

Check your water bill for how much of the cap you’re using. It resets at the start of each financial year.

You can reach the cap in a single bill if your usage is extremely high.

For most people, the concession is spread across multiple bills.

If you live in a duplex, apartment, unit or townhouse and have a shared water bill, you can get a concession if you're:

  • financially responsible.

The concessions are reimbursed into your nominated bank account.

This is done twice a year around January and July following verification of property ownership.

Your claim will automatically get reimbursed into your nominated bank account. This will happen twice a year around January and July.
