Spectacle concessions

Members of the Northern Territory (NT) Concession Scheme and their dependents under the age of 16 can receive a concession on prescription spectacles.

You can get up to $502.20 every two years for you and your registered dependents for spectacles. The value of concession depends on the spectacle combination.

You and your dependents can receive a concession on either:

  • one pair of bifocal, trifocal or multifocal spectacles
  • one pair of reading spectacles and one pair of distance spectacles
  • contact lenses.

You can also claim the following:

  • tinting
  • repairs to frames as necessary

There is no restriction on frequency of repairs.

You get the concession when you purchase your spectacles.

You must buy from an approved optometrist.

You can claim the concession every two years from the approval date of your previous purchase.

You can get replacement lenses within the two-year period for members who experience:

  • eyesight deterioration
  • a medical or post-operative condition.

Any changes to eyesight must be in writing and certified by the prescribing optometrist.
