Renew, transfer or change your water licence
If you're a licence holder, you can change, renew or amend your water extraction licence.
Renew your licence
To continue accessing water, you must apply to renew your water extraction licence before it expires.
You must do this at least 120 business days, approximately 6 months, before your licence expiry date.
Step 1. Fill in the renewal form.

Step 2. Submit the form by:
- email to water.licensing@nt.gov.au
- mail or in person to your local Water Resources office.
Applications received after the expiry date will be returned and you will be asked to apply for a new water extraction licence.
Transfer a licence
If the interest in the land has been transferred, you must notify the Water Resources office to update the public register for water licences.
This includes changes in land ownership and properties that are under a lease agreement.
To notify the office, follow these steps:

Step 2. Submit the form by:
- email to water.licensing@nt.gov.au
- mail or in person to your local Water Resources office.
Amend your licence
You must amend your licence if you want to:
- add or remove an extraction point or bore
- change the land on which the water will be used.
You can apply to amend any other term or condition of your licence.
Applications to amend a licence are assessed to see if there are any new or different impacts that could result from the change.

- mail or in person to your local Water Resources office.
Withhold commercially confidential information
If your application includes commercially confidential information, you can apply for it to be withheld from the public register.
To apply, follow these steps:
