Water extraction licence: rules and responsibilities
If you have a water extraction licence in the Northern Territory, you must follow its terms and conditions.
Some of the terms and conditions are specific to your location or the type of licence you have.
However, as a minimum requirement, you must:
- install and maintain a working water meter on each extraction point
- submit a meter reading
- not exceed your licensed allocation
- apply to renew your licence before it expires.
Buy or sell a property with a water extraction licence
If you buy or sell a property with an existing water extraction licence, the licence will automatically transfer ownership with the land title.
The new landowners should contact the Water Resources office to update the contact details for the licence.
