Christmas closures
- MVR Jabiru will be closed from Friday 6 December 2024 to Wednesday 5 February 2025, reopening on Thursday 6 February 2025.
- MVR Yulara will be closed from Monday 16 December 2024 to Wednesday 1 January 2025, reopening on Thursday 2 January 2025.
- All other MVR offices including the contact centre and vehicle inspection facilities will be closed from Wednesday 25 December 2024 to Wednesday 1 January 2025, reopening on Thursday 2 January 2025.

The Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR) office provides vehicle registration and driver licensing services across the Northern Territory (NT).
You can access the below services online or phone, or at participating Australia Post offices.
If you're an eligible business operator, you can access vehicle registration transactions through MVR for Business.
Driver licence

Renew or replace driver licence
You'll need your:
- licence number on the front of your NT licence, and
- MVR transaction number - this is the unique number on the top right hand corner of your most recent renewal notice or on your SMS reminder.

To renew your driver licence, you can use MVR Quick Pay or the NT Rego app.
You can also:
- call the automated service on 1300 654 628, or
- go to a post office with MVR services.

Renew vehicle registration
You'll need your:
- vehicle registration number (number plate), and

Get a roadworthy inspection through an authorised inspector (local mechanic).
Apply for a temporary licence to drive an unregistered vehicle
You can apply online for a temporary licence to drive a vehicle:
- less than 4.5 tonnes
- that has been previously registered in the NT.
You‘ll need your current NT driver licence, and the vehicle’s plate, VIN or chassis number.

Update contact details
You will need your:
- MVR Customer ID - you can find this on your NT:
- vehicle certificate of registration
- licence and registration renewal notice
- MVR issued receipt
- licence number on the front of your NT licence or vehicle registration number (number plate).
To update your details, you can use MVR Quick Pay or the NT Rego app.
You can also go to a post office with MVR services.

Some customers calling from an Android phone have experienced call dropouts.
This seems to be caused by the phone's Wi-Fi calling feature. To prevent this issue, customers have disabled Wi-Fi calling.
For help turning off Wi-Fi calling, check your phone's user manual or contact your phone provider.
