There are two major multicultural events held each year in the Northern Territory (NT):
- the Darwin Waterfront Harmony Soiree
- Big Day Out in Harmony in Alice Springs.
Darwin Waterfront Harmony Soiree
The Darwin Waterfront Harmony Soiree is a celebration of the NT's cultural richness, diversity and a display of harmony as a multicultural society.
The event is organised by the NT Government, Darwin Waterfront Corporation, Darwin Community Arts and the Multicultural Council of the NT.
Join in the cultural activities and entertainment and try delicious food from different parts of the world. You can:
- learn how to play musical instruments like the Greek bouzouki and lyra
- play Gaelic football
- try Arabic calligraphy
- experience dumpling making
- take a photo with a Chinese lion.
The event also includes a lantern competition, lantern flotilla release and fireworks finale.
The Darwin Waterfront Harmony Soiree will be held from 4pm to 8.30pm on Saturday 27 May 2017 at the Darwin Waterfront Precinct.

Lanterns will also be available at the event from the lantern stall, next to the information stall.
How to get involved
You can still submit an expression of interest if you would like to hold a community stall at the Darwin Waterfront Harmony Soiree.
Expressions of interest to hold a performance or run a food stall are closed.
To submit an expression of interest to hold a community stall follow these steps:
Step 1. Fill in the expression of interest: community stall form .
If you need funding assistance to participate in the Waterfront Harmony Soiree you should apply for a Quick Response Grant .
Step 2. Submit your application using one of the following methods:
- in person - Office of Multicultural Affairs, Floor 7, Darwin Plaza, Smith Street Darwin

Big Day Out in Harmony
Multicultural Community Services of Central Australia and the Alice Springs Town Council run a harmony event for Alice Springs.
The event is held on the lawns of the Alice Springs Town Council. It showcases food, films, music, dance and martial arts demonstrations from the town's multicultural community.
Participating multicultural groups include Indigenous Australians, Maoris, Chinese, Korean, Sudanese, Ethiopians, West Africans, Filipinos, Greeks, Indians, Afghans, the Islamic Society and the Latin group.
The 2017 Big Day Out in Harmony will take place from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday 13 May at the Alice Springs Town Council lawns.
