Tabletop Track

Staying safe in parks and reserves

The Northern Territory experiences planned and unplanned fires from May to October which can affect air quality and park access, find out more about:

The Tabletop Track is a challenging multi-day bushwalk around the Tabletop Range in Litchfield National Park.

The walk takes you through savanna woodlands, forests, scenic pools and rough, rocky landscapes.

The track is graded at level 4 difficulty and can be hard-going, hot and exposed with steep sections. Find out if the track matches your fitness and experience by reading the track grading system.

Be well-prepared, whether you are doing the full circuit or a shorter section.

There are minimal facilities, so you will need to carry your own supplies, including water.

Be aware of fires in the area. Prioritise your safety if fires are close.

The track is open seasonally, usually from June to September, but can close temporarily for safety or management reasons.

You can reach the Tabletop loop via access tracks at Florence Falls, Wangi Falls and Walker Creek.

Avoid the heat

Walk early or late to avoid the hottest time of the day. Wear sunscreen, a sunhat and protective clothing.

Carry an emergency communication device

Take a satellite phone or personal locator beacon. Check the map for locations of emergency call devices.

Carry appropriate maps

To track your location offline, download the free GPS-enabled maps on the Avenza Maps app.

Have an emergency plan

For situations like fires or injury, have an emergency plan.

Tell a reliable person where you are going and when you will return. Sign in and out of log books.

Walk safely

Make sure the walk is within your capabilities. Wear sturdy walking boots.

Carry extra water

Areas of this track have limited water. The Northern Campground has none.

Know where you can next refill your supply and always treat the water before drinking.

Carry a first aid kit

Carry a well-stocked first aid kit that includes a snake bandage in case you need to provide basic first aid.

Walk in a group

Walk with at least 2 other people for safety, and so an injured person is not left alone.

Be aware of fires

Before you leave, check the fire danger rating forecast on the SecureNT website.

If you see fire ahead or feel unsafe, follow your emergency plan.

Be aware of crocodiles

Salt and freshwater crocodiles live in this park. Read about how to Be Crocwise.
