Internet Subsidy Scheme
Through the Internet Subsidy Scheme, you may able to get financial assistance for internet costs related to distance education.
This subsidy is a Northern Territory (NT) Government initiative that is managed by the Department of Education and Training (DET).

Who can apply
To be eligible, your child must:
- be enrolled in one of the following NT distance education centres:
- Alice Springs School of the Air
- Katherine School of the Air
- NT School of Distance Education.
- maintain a minimum of 70% attendance
- live in a category 1 to 3 remote location as per determination 8 of 2015 remote locality provisions PDF (481.2 KB) (not temporarily travelling).
Households also cannot claim the subsidy if internet costs are claimed as a business expense.
Before you apply
With your application, you must provide a copy of your most recent household internet plan tax invoice that clearly states:
- the contracted monthly internet plan amount
- your primary residential address.
If your primary residential address is not shown on the tax invoice, the following forms of evidence will be acceptable:
- your current NT driver’s licence which must cover the claim period
- a utility or services account
- a current lease or rental document
- a screenshot from the Australian Electoral Commission’s check my enrolment service.
How to apply
For students who are:
- enrolled in distance education in semester 1:
- submit your application through GrantsNT by the end of semester (before the last day of term 2 each calendar year)
- newly enrolled in distance education in semester 2:
- email StudentAssistance.DET@education.nt.gov.au and request an invitation to apply through GrantsNT
- submit your application through GrantsNT by the end of semester 2 (before the last day of term 4 of that year).
Applications received after the specified cut off dates will not be considered.
