Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award
The Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award recognises and celebrates the achievements and contributions by senior Territorians.
It also encourages excellence and creativity in the art of portraiture by Northern Territory (NT) artists.
The award is held every year during Seniors Month.
This year's award exhibition will be held from 12 July to 17 August at the Araluen Art Centre in Alice Springs.
Award categories
The following 5 award categories are awarded alongside the Selfie with a Senior competition:
- $7,000 - first prize
- $2,000 - second prize
- $500 - third prize
- $500 - young artist prize (open to ages 16 to 25)
- $1,000 - people’s choice prize.
The Selfie with a Senior competition invites you to submit a photo of yourself and a senior. You must also include a statement of how the senior has inspired you. The winning entry will be awarded $1,000, followed by 2 x $100 gift card for the second and third winner.

Winners announcement
The first, second and third prize winners were announced at the exhibition opening.
The People’s Choice winner was announced following public voting after the closing of the exhibition.
1st prize - $7,000

Judges’ comments: The winning artwork captivated the judges for its profound technicality, originality, and effectiveness in capturing the identity of the subject. The collaborative effort between two artists held a unique interest for the judges due to its distinctive approach. Particularly noteworthy was the involvement of one of the artists as the subject, incorporating his traditional fine-line cross-hatching technique (rarrk), which not only celebrated the artists style, but enriched the artworks authenticity and depth. The piece demonstrated an exceptional command of technique, symbolism, and emotion.
2nd prize - $2,000
