English as a second language students
To assist the transition to mainstream schooling, international students can access intensive English courses.
On arrival, your child's English language proficiency will be assessed and your child will be placed on an appropriate intensive English course.
Primary intensive English (Transition to Year 6)
Your child can attend an intensive English program at Anula Primary School in Darwin's northern suburbs.
The program focuses on English language acquisition and enhancing your child's skills to learn in English so that they can cope in mainstream classes.
A free bus service is provided for your child while they attend the Intensive English Unit.
Middle and senior secondary intensive English (Year 7 to Year 12)
Your child can undertake a tailored program to develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills across all subject areas.
The program equips your child with the skills to participate fully in class work including study skills.
The classes are offered at the following schools:
- Sanderson Middle School (Years 7-9)
- Darwin High School (Years 10-12).
