Fines: non-compliant orders and sanctions
Enforcement orders are made by the Fines Recovery Unit (FRU) when a person has failed to pay their fine or infringement notice in the required time.
A process issue has been identified with all current enforcement orders and sanctions issued by the FRU which means they are not effective.
What it means
All current enforcement orders and sanctions issued by the FRU are not valid and cannot presently be enforced.
This does not affect the original fines or penalties that have been issued to you.
If you owe money, you will still need to pay this.
If you don’t pay, the FRU may take further enforcement action against you in the future.
Who it affects
You could have been affected if you received an FRU enforcement order or sanction related to unpaid fines, resulting in a:
- licence suspension
- cessation of business order
- community work order.
What you need to do
If you think you may be impacted by an enforcement order or sanction, before resuming any disqualified activity, check your status by calling 1800 161 205.
You must still comply with any other disqualification or suspension for unrelated matters, such as having your licence suspended for drink driving or speeding.
The FRU will contact people who have been affected.
