Transfer or takeover a liquor licence
You can apply to transfer or take control of a liquor licence if:
- the business is sold
- the licence holder has died
- the licence holder goes bankrupt.

You can transfer your licence to:
- an individual
- a partnership
- a company.

You can apply to conduct the business of a deceased licence holder, also known as a licensee, if you are:
- the legal representative of the deceased licensee
- a member of the deceased licensee’s family who is 18 years or older, or
- the representative of a person or class of people claiming an entitlement in the estate of a deceased licensee.
If a liquor licensee dies, the licence continues until it:
- expires, or
- is cancelled under section 80 of the Liquor Act 2019.

A trustee or administrator can apply for approval to takeover a liquor licence from someone who has become bankrupt.
