Book an interpreter

If you need an interpreter, you can contact Interpreting and Translating Service NT (ITSNT).

ITSNT provides interpreter services for migrant community languages. If you require an Aboriginal language interpreter, you can book an Aboriginal interpreter.

Interpreters are available for on-site (face-to-face) appointments:

  • during business hours
  • after hours
  • on weekends.

ITSNT does not offer video or phone interpreting services.

Before you book

You should book in advance to ensure your interpreting requirements can be met. You should also check fees.

When booking an interpreter, you must provide all of the following information:

  • Your name and contact number.
  • Organisation or division name, contact number and email.
  • Name of person who will be conducting the interview or relevant contact person.
  • Onsite contact number in case the interpreter needs to call on arrival.

  • Name and gender.
  • Specific language and country of birth.

  • Location, date and time the interpreter is needed.
  • Type of assignment and topic.
  • Approximate length of assignment.
  • Preferred gender of the interpreter.

How to book

Fill in the online application.

Booking requests are processed from 8:30am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Onsite (face-to-face) interpreting services are only available for the greater Darwin region. This includes:

  • cities of Darwin and Palmerston
  • the Litchfield Shire
  • East Arm
  • Robertson Barracks.

If you're outside the greater Darwin region or your request is urgent, contact the Translating and Interpreting Service National (TIS National) on 131 450.
