About specialist services

In the Northern Territory (NT) you can access specialist services in three ways, or through a combination of these:

  • by clinical specialist outreach services visiting your remote location
  • through clinical specialist outpatient services in hospitals
  • by using clinical specialist telehealth services, which support remote locations through an audio / visual link to a clinical specialist in a hospital.

Specialist services for remote communities

Services that are provided to NT remote communities include:

  • general physician
  • general surgery
  • genetics
  • home dialysis
  • immunology
  • maternity services
  • maxillofacial surgery
  • mental health  - psychiatry
  • mental health - forensics
  • neurology
  • obstetrics and gynaecology
  • oncology
  • ophthalmology
  • orthopaedics
  • paediatrics
  • rehabilitation
  • renal
  • respiratory
  • spinal cord injury outreach
  • viral hepatitis clinics
  • ultrasound/sonography services.

Not all remote communities receive all services.
