Affordable rental properties for key service workers

If you’re looking for a rental and work in a key service industry in the Northern Territory (NT), you may be eligible to apply for the Affordable Housing Scheme.

Head-leasing initiative

Under this initiative, the NT Government head-leased private properties and made them available for eligible tenants to sub-lease at 70% of market rates.

Properties are currently located in:

• Darwin
• Palmerston.

All properties are units, there are no houses in this initiative.

Pets are generally not permitted due to body corporate by-laws in most properties.

Availability and current listings

Availability is limited, with the range of properties expected to gradually decrease over time.

There are currently no properties available. Please check back for updates.

Who can apply

Applications are only open when properties are available. A waitlist is not maintained.

To be eligible, you must:

• have at least one adult in the household working in a key service industry
• be able to make regular rent payments
• provide suitable references.

You are not eligible if you:

• own a home in the NT
• get rental subsidy from your employer or another housing program
• work directly in the resources sector
• earn more than the income limits below.

Only income from adults and independent minors is counted. Income from dependent minors is not included.

Income limits apply and are calculated based on the number and type of household members.
