Anzac Day 2026

Anzac Day 2026 will be commemorated across the Northern Territory on Saturday 25 April.

On 25 April 1915, Australian and New Zealand troops landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula as part of an Allied campaign during the First World War.

Around 16,000 troops came ashore at what is now known as Anzac Cove, encountering strong resistance.

The Gallipoli campaign continued for 8 months.

By the end of 1915, Allied forces were evacuated. More than 60,000 Australians served at Gallipoli, with over 26,000 casualties, including more than 8,000 who lost their lives. Turkish forces also experienced significant losses.

From these events, Anzac Day was established as a National Day of Remembrance.

Since the first commemorations in 1916, it has come to recognise all Australians and New Zealanders who have served, and continue to serve, in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

Today, Anzac Day acknowledges those who served overseas, as well as the contribution of current Australian Defence Force personnel, veterans and their families. It provides an opportunity to pause and reflect.

Across Australia, many people attend dawn services, marches and commemorative events each year, reflecting the ongoing significance of the day in communities.

The Northern Territory Government supports programs and activities that promote awareness and understanding of Anzac Day, and that acknowledge the service of Australian and New Zealand Defence Force personnel.
