Higher risk weather season

Northern Territory Emergency Service (NTES) and the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) officially launched the 2025 Higher Risk Weather Season program, running from now until April 2026. The program runs from 1 October 2025 to 30 April 2026.

This period marks the peak for severe weather events across the Top End, including:

  • cyclones
  • floods
  • severe storms.

Meanwhile, Central Australia continues to face elevated fire danger.

BOM is predicting that the first significant rain of the northern wet season is likely to be earlier than usual for the NT.

When the monsoon is active there could be:

  • tropical lows
  • tropical cyclones
  • heavy and widespread rainfall.

All of these can lead to quick creek and river rises, resulting in flooding.
