Coronial findings

On 26 January 2020, a boating accident off the New South Wales (NSW) coast caused a death.

As a result, a NSW Coroners Court inquest was held in Newcastle on 12 to 14 September 2023.

The inquest found that the vessel, a Halvorsen 42 Coastal Cruiser, had a design flaw.

It caused the vessel to capsize in mild conditions, leading to loss of life.

Evidence at the inquest also shows that the same design flaw affects another model - the Halvorsen 44.

It may also affect other models.
