University and higher education

University and higher education courses lead to qualifications that range from a bachelor degree through to a doctoral degree.

Some courses leading to the award of a diploma or advanced diploma may also be accredited as higher education courses.

Almost all higher education programs in Australia are offered by universities. A small but growing number of non-university providers and overseas institutions also offer accredited higher education courses.

In the Northern Territory, Charles Darwin University and the Batchelor Institute offer higher education programs.

Before enrolling

You should consider all of the following:

• the qualifications needed for the career or job that interests you
• whether the course will help achieve your career goals
• where you want to study
• if you want to study full-time or part-time
• the cost of tuition and other materials
• the support, welfare and guidance offered
• the cost of transport, accommodation and living
• class sizes.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for the course may be one or more of the following:

• year 12 results
• interview
• portfolio of work
• audition or other assessment.

Help after leaving school

Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET) graduates can get help on employment, education or training choices for up to 2 years after leaving school.
