University and higher education courses lead to qualifications such as a:

  • bachelor degree
  • graduate certificate
  • graduate diploma
  • master degree
  • doctoral degree.

Some courses leading to the award of a diploma or advanced diploma may also be accredited as higher education courses.

Most higher education courses in Australia are offered by universities. A small and growing number of non-university providers and overseas institutions also offer accredited higher education courses.

You should consider all of the following:

  • the qualifications needed for the career or job that interests you
  • whether the course will help achieve your career goals
  • where you want to study
  • if you want to study full-time or part-time
  • the cost of tuition and other materials
  • the support, welfare and guidance offered.

Entry requirements and applications

The NT Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET) is the main method used by NT students to gain admission into university.

If you didn't complete Year 12, there are other ways to gain admission into university. These may include:

  • enabling or bridging courses
  • a Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
  • vocation education and training (VET) qualifications
  • technical and further education (TAFE) qualifications
  • credit for prior learning or work experience
  • portfolio entry.
