Holtze Youth Detention Centre
The Holtze Youth Detention Centre is located at 215 Willard Road, Holtze. It's about 30 kilometres from Darwin.
It houses young people from across the Northern Territory (NT) who are remanded or sentenced to detention.
The day-to-day care of these young people are managed by youth justice officers and case management staff.
They help develop a structured plan that identifies their goals while in detention and beyond.
This plan may include programs that:
- promote crime prevention
- build safer communities and
- address their psychological, social and emotional wellbeing.
Programs
Programs available at the centre include:
- Safe Sober Strong
- Step Up Violence Program
- Changing Habits and Reaching Targets (CHART)
- The Seek Education or Employment not Detention Program (SEED).
Education
The centre provides education for young people through its Tivendale School. It includes:
- middle and secondary school programs
- NT Certificate of Education
- VET programs
- senior first aid
- Drive Safe NT - learner licence
- music
- art
- road safety program
- drugs and alcohol program
- healthy relationships program
- legal studies
- animal therapy
- physical education.
Visiting rules
When visiting, you must:
- go through a security screening before you can enter
- wear clothing that:
- adequately covers your legs, shoulders and chest
- is not excessively tight, short or revealing
- does not have obscene, violent or offensive words and pictures
- has no gang affiliated colours or symbols
- wear flat, enclosed shoes - no high heels or steel cap boots
- have a valid photo ID.
Children under 18 don't need photo ID but they must be accompanied by an adult.
Prohibited items
There are certain prohibited items that are not allowed in the detention centre.

Inappropriate behaviour
Your visit be declined or terminated if you:
- appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- engage in inappropriate behaviour.
Authorisation for that person to visit the centre again may also be withdrawn.
How to visit
Unless arranged otherwise, visiting hours are from:
- 11am to 6pm for family
- 11am to 3pm for professionals.
To visit, you must contact the centre at least 24 hours before.
Call 08 8922 0400 or email tfhcyouth.ddydcvisitreception@nt.gov.au from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
If you need to visit with less than 24 hours notice, you must contact the visits booking officer.

How to get there
There is no public transport available.
You must use your own transport or a taxi.
Parking
If you drive to the centre, free parking is available on site.
