Arrange a funeral
The senior next of kin or family should choose a funeral provider as soon as possible after someone dies.
You or your funeral provider can contact the Office of the Coroner to find out when the body will be released.
Releasing a deceased person
Once the person has been formally identified, and all medical examinations and tests are finished, the body is released to the funeral provider chosen by the family for burial or cremation.
If the body needs to be transported interstate or overseas, the family should make arrangements with a funeral provider.
The provider will prepare the body and organise all required paperwork.
