Takeaway alcohol in Alice Springs and Central Australia

Changes to the NT Liquor Act

On 1 October 2019, liquor laws changed in the Northern Territory (NT).

There are restrictions in Alice Springs and Central Australia for:

  • times and days you can buy takeaway alcohol
  • how much you can buy of certain types of alcohol each day.

You may be asked to provide photo identification to buy takeaway alcohol in Alice Springs.

You will require photo ID if you are buying a restricted item in Alice Springs. Restricted items include cask and fortified wine such as port.

When you can buy takeaway alcohol

Alice Springs

You can only buy takeaway alcohol during the following hours:

  • from Monday to Friday, 2pm to 9pm
  • on Saturday and public holidays, except Christmas Day and Good Friday, 10am to 9pm
  • on Sunday from pubs with drive-through bottleshops and clubs for members only from 12 noon to 9pm.

You cannot buy takeaway alcohol.

You cannot buy takeaway alcohol.
