Food recalls
Food recalls remove unsafe food from distribution, sale and consumption.
If your food business is affected by a food recall, you must withhold it from sale until action can be taken.
These actions may include:
- disposal
- return of the product to the supplier or
- further processing to make the food safe.
If your food business wholesales, manufactures or imports food, you must also have a recall plan.
To help you with this plan, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) have a Food Industry Recall Protocol guide.
For more information, watch the video below and go to the FSANZ website.
Current recalls
Many food recalls in Australia happen because allergens are not declared on food labels.
To see current food recalls in Australia, go to the Food Standards Australia New Zealand website.
If they impact the Northern Territory, they are also posted on the NT Health Facebook page.
Sign up for food recall alerts via the Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia website.
