Plants and quarantine
Introduction
Biosecurity alert: Polyphagous shot-hole borer carrier import conditions
Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB), a small exotic beetle, has been detected in Western Australia and is under a national emergency plant pest response.
To protect the Northern Territory, import conditions now apply to PSHB carriers from WA. Find out your requirements in the explanatory guide PDF (563.1 KB).
PSHB bores into tree trunks, stems and branches, and can lead to tree death. It poses a high risk to NT plant life and biodiversity.
Under the NT Plant Health Act 2008, it is an offence to import the specified carriers not in accordance with the control notice. Read the notice in the NTG Gazette PDF (290.0 KB).
If you suspect a pest or disease outbreak, report it to the Exotic Plant Pest Hotline on 1800 084 881 or email plantbiosecurity@nt.gov.au.
You risk breaking quarantine laws by bringing certain types of plants, fruits and vegetables and agricultural equipment into Northern Territory (NT).
Some produce and equipment are infected with pests and disease.
These pages are for agricultural producers who want to import or export.
They also have guidelines interstate visitors and residents about the types of products that are restricted in the NT.
Read the NT plant health manual PDF (4.8 MB) for requirements to:
- introduce plant material and plant-related material into the NT or
- move material within the Territory.
