Buffel grass weed advisory committee

The buffel grass weed advisory committee was approved by the Minister for Environment on 6 May 2024.

The committee has developed the buffel grass management strategy: Central Australia 2024 - 2030 PDF (1.7 MB) which prioritises areas and methods for effective management actions.

Functions

The functions of a weed advisory committee are to:

  • develop draft weed management plans in consultation with appropriate persons, groups or organisations, and with persons whose land may be affected by a declared weed infestation
  • advise the minister on the progress of weed management in the region, district, catchment area or the specific purpose for which it was established
  • advise the minister on other matters as the minister may request from time to time.

Membership

The committee consists of persons appointed by the minister, who:

  • has expertise or experience relevant to the management of declared weeds, or
  • represent groups or organisations that are concerned with the management of declared weeds or related matters.

A member of committee holds office for 3 years and is eligible for reappointment.
