Apply for commercial passenger vehicle identity (CPV ID) card

A commercial passenger vehicle identity (CPV ID) card identifies all of the following:

  • you as a commercial passenger vehicle (CPV) driver
  • the category of CPV you can drive
  • where you can drive.

A CPV ID card is free. All commercial drivers must display their CPV ID card except limousine drivers, who must produce the card on demand.

Tourist vehicle and motor omnibus drivers do not need to hold a CPV ID card.

Before you apply

To apply for any CPV ID card, you must meet the minimum requirements below:

  • hold a current open (not provisional) Northern Territory (NT) driver licence with H endorsement for your type of vehicle
  • be at least 21 years old
  • have two years driving experience.

Provisional CPV ID card

A provisional CPV ID card is for drivers who have:

You will be issued with a provisional CPV ID card for three months or up to the expiry date of your NT driver licence.

During this period you can gain 220 hours of practical CPV driving experience and complete stage two CPV driver training. This will then allow you to apply for an open CPV ID card.

An open CPV ID card is for drivers who have:

A conditional CPV ID card is for drivers who have not met certain requirements, or for people who want to drive a courtesy vehicle or limousine only.
