Become an Aboriginal interpreter

This page has information on how to apply to become an Aboriginal interpreter in the Northern Territory.

Before you apply

To become an interpreter, you must be both:

  • fluent in an Aboriginal language and in English
  • interested in being employed by the government.

The Aboriginal Interpreter Service will ring you to organise an interview.

You will also be given a language test.

If you pass your language test, you will be given training to become an approved interpreter.
