Seized fishing items

The NT Fisheries Compliance Unit conduct patrols across the Northern Territory.

Fisheries officers can seize illegal items under section 33 of the Fisheries Act 1988.

These items may be non-complaint with the law, illegal to have or be connected to fisheries offences.

Claim a seized item

If you believe an item belongs to you, follow the steps below.

Step 1. Call NT Fisheries on 08 8999 2144 between 8am and 4pm on weekdays. Ask to speak to the Fisheries Compliance Unit.

Step 2. Tell us which item is yours and include the item ID number.

Step 3. Make an appointment to collect it.

Step 4. Collect it at your appointment time from:

NT Fisheries
33 Vaughan Street
Berrimah NT.

Unclaimed items

If a seized item is still unclaimed after 30 days, the item is forfeited to the Territory under section 33A(2) of the Act.

The director of fisheries may then dispose of it.
