Royal Darwin Hospital audiology services

The Royal Darwin Hospital Audiology Department provides audiology services to inpatients and outpatients. This includes diagnostic hearing and balance assessments.

Services provided include:

  • hearing assessments for inpatients and outpatients, including otoscopy, tympanometry, pure tone audiometry and speech audiometry
  • all relevant audiology services for Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) outpatient specialist clinics
  • all relevant audiology services for ENT specialist outreach trips in remote communities
  • baseline audiology and monitoring of patients undergoing ototoxic treatment, including high frequency audiometry and oto-acoustic emissions
  • baseline audiology and monitoring of patients and staff undergoing hyperbaric treatment and training
  • electrophysiological assessments including auditory brainstem response, electrocochleography and auditory steady state response
  • vestibular assessment, including videonystagmography, calorics, vestibular evoked myogenic potentials, and rehabilitation
  • tinnitus counselling and information
  • advisory service for personal hearing amplifiers
  • referral and advisory service for hearing amplification and assistive listening devices
  • audiology education for other health professions and groups
  • baseline audiology and monitoring of staff exposed to potentially hazardous noise levels, including engineering, laundry, catering and switchboard workers, as well as free assessments for any other staff members.

Katherine Hospital audiology services

Provides all relevant audiology services for visiting Ear, Nose and Throat outpatient specialist clinics.

Gove District Hospital audiology services

Provides all relevant audiology services for visiting Ear, Nose and Throat outpatient specialist clinics.
