Transgender and gender diverse services

Trans or transgender is a general term for a person whose gender or identity is different to their sex at birth or upbringing.

Your gender expression is unique and there is no right or wrong way to express it.

Transitioning

Transitioning is the process of changing gender from the one given at birth, to line up with your own sense of identity which can be physical, psychological, social and emotional.

Changing your name and gender may take time and you might need to provide medical information.  You might also need to pay a fee.

You can choose to nominate a preferred name on some records and identity documents.

Northern Territory Government

You can apply to change your sex or gender or your child's on an NT birth certificate if you were born in the NT.

Australian Passports can be issued to sex and gender diverse applicants. They can be re-issued to change gender status.
