Become a junior ranger

The junior ranger program offers children the opportunity to discover the natural and cultural environment through fun and hands-on activities.

The program runs annually in Alice Springs, Katherine and Darwin.

What junior rangers do

Junior rangers:

  • explore parks and reserves
  • learn outdoor skills
  • identify animal tracks
  • identify weeds
  • find their way using maps
  • spotlight for animals
  • bird watch
  • help conserve the environment
  • explore Aboriginal culture.

All activities for junior rangers are free.

Parents are welcome to attend activities with their child.

To be a junior ranger, you must:

  • be 9 to 12 years old
  • have average fitness
  • live in Alice Springs, Katherine or Darwin.

Places in the program are limited.
