Black jewfish
Scientific name
Protonibea diacanthus.
Where they live
Black jewfish are commonly found in cloudy coastal waters to 60m and feed near the bottom. They are also found in tidal rivers and estuaries.
Feed mainly on crustaceans and small fishes.
Size and age
Grow to 150cm and weigh up to 45kg.

Baited hook and lures.
Black jewfish are highly prone to barotrauma when caught in water deeper than 10m and should not be targeted for catch and release.
