Shooting on vacant Crown land
You must apply for a permit to shoot on vacant Crown land in the Northern Territory (NT).
You're only allowed to shoot on vacant Crown land shown in this Middle Arm mapPDF (523.2 KB) and this Howard Springs map PDF (572.7 KB).
Issued permits will expire after five years.
Who can apply
You must be over 18 to apply for a permit to shoot on vacant Crown land.
You will need a firearm discharge permit (or equivalent) to get a shooter's licence from the NT Police.

How to apply
You can apply for a permit either in person or by mail.
In person
To apply in person, follow these steps:

Step 2. Bring with you:
- a valid NT shooters licence (if applicable)
- a valid NT drivers licence.
Step 3. Submit your form and permit fee at any of the below offices where you must pay the $20 permit fee by cash, cheque, money order or credit card.
Offices are open Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm.

To apply by mail, follow these steps:
Step 1. Fill in the form.

Step 2. Attach a photocopy of your current photo identification such as a driver licence - this must be signed by a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner for Oaths or NT Police.
Step 3. Attach a cheque or money order for the $20 permit fee made out to the Receiver of Territory Monies (RTM).
Step 4. Submit the form and documents by mail to:
