Apply to shoot on vacant Crown land

To shoot on vacant Crown land in the Northern Territory (NT), you must apply for a permit.

Issued permits expire after 10 years.

Permit restrictions

When shooting on vacant Crown land, the following rules apply:

  • you can't hunt - you’re only allowed to hunt on Parks and Wildlife dedicated hunting reserves.

Who can apply

To apply for a permit to shoot on vacant Crown land, you must be at least 18 years old.

How to apply

You must apply by filling in the form below and submit it in person or by mail.

To apply in person, you must follow the below steps:

Step 1. Fill in the form and prepare your NT driver licence or photo ID.

Step 2. Submit the form and pay the $20 permit fee at your local Crown Land Management office below.

You can pay by cash, cheque, money order or credit card.

To apply by mail, you must follow the below steps:

Step 1. Fill in the form.

Step 2. Attach the following:

  • photocopies signed by a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner for Oaths or NT Police of any of the below:
    • NT driver licence
    • NT shooter licence
  • a $20 cheque or money order for the permit fee made payable to the Receiver of Territory Monies (RTM).

Step 3. Submit all of the above by mail to:

After you apply

If your application is approved, you will be notified as follows:

  • if you applied in person - you will receive the permit at the front counter
  • if you applied by mail - you will receive the permit through your postal address.
