School options for children with disabilities

All schools must make reasonable adjustments so that your child can participate on the same basis as other students.

School options

Specialist education settings are an option for students with disabilities who have complex needs.

When considering school options, you can:

  • speak with the school
  • ask for advice from healthcare providers.

If your child doesn't meet the requirements for enrolling at a specialist school, your child will be supported in a regular school.

The Disability Standards for Education 2005 helps to inform the rights of students with disabilities, find out more about the standards on the Children and Young People with Disabilities Australia website.
