Preschool roles and responsibilities

An overview of the roles and responsibilities for regulated preschool programs managed by the Northern Territory Government's Department of Education and Training.

Approved provider

The Department of Education and Training is the Approved Provider for all Northern Territory Government regulated preschools.

Responsibility for this role lies with the Deputy Chief Executive, School Education.

Persons with Management or Control (PMC)

The Senior Director Education for each region are PMCs. Their responsibilities are to:

  • plan, direct or control the delivery of the service
  • ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of all children at the service
  • participate in executive and financial decision-making.

Nominated supervisor

School Principals are Nominated Supervisors. Their responsibilities include:

  • day-to-day management of the service
  • ensuring educational programs meet the requirements of the National Quality Standard and National Regulations
  • overseeing supervision and safety of all children at the service.
