Aboriginal Business Development Program

The Aboriginal Business Development Program (ABDP) assists Aboriginal people to start or expand their business with grants between $1,000 (including GST) and $30,000 (including GST).

Grant recipients also get one-on-one support from a small business champion.

To be eligible for grant assistance, you must be all of the following:

  • a resident of the Northern Territory (NT)
  • your business must be at least 50% Aboriginal owned and operated, and based and registered in the NT
  • the application must demonstrate a viable business and have relevant approvals such as:
    • building permission
    • licences.

There are two stages to the application process.

Complete stage one of the application at the Smartygrants website.

Make sure you attach the following documents to your application:

  • proof of Aboriginal descent
  • company extract confirmation.

Your application will be reviewed against the program criteria.

If you are approved, a small business champion will contact you to provide support through stage two of your application.

Stage two

If you receive stage one approval, you will then need to complete stage two of the application on the Smartygrants website.

For more information about the program, contact a small business champion.
