Report a notifiable mining incident
Regulation of mining activities - under review
Environmental regulation of mining activities in the Northern Territory has changed.
From 1 July 2024, activities will be regulated under the Environment Protection Act (EP) 2019.
Transitional arrangements apply for activities that were authorised under the Mining Management Act (MMA) 2001.
Read more on the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security (DEPWS) website.
This page is being updated to reflect the new regulatory framework.
Anyone working on a mine site must report an incident during a licensed mining activity that causes or threatens material or significant environmental harm.
This is known as a notifiable incident.
You must notify DEPWS' mining division within 24 hours of the incident occurring. This is required under section 225 of the EP Act.
Failure to comply is an offence under section 228 of the EP Act.
