Energy Bill Relief - small business
Eligible small businesses can get up to $325 in energy bill relief from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025.
If you're a household, read more about energy bill relief for households.
Check if you're eligible
You can get energy bill relief if your small business:
- is on a separately metered commercial tariff with your licenced electricity retailer
- has an annual electricity consumption below the threshold of 160 MWh
- does not run using electricity from your home
- is not a local government council.
You must also not be a government agency, institution, or corporation. Unless you mainly provide services that compete with the private sector.
If you're a new small business customer after 1 July 2024, the usage limit doesn’t apply.
Relief schedule
Bill relief will be given quarterly if you have an active account on these dates:
- quarter 1: 31 July 2024
- quarter 2: 1 October 2024
- quarter 3: 1 January 2025
- quarter 4: 1 April 2025
New customers after 1 April 2025 won't be eligible to receive bill relief.
When can you expect to get it
If you’re eligible, your electricity provider will automatically apply the relief to your bills from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025.
It will be applied on a pro-rata basis. You don't need to do anything.
For more information contact your licenced electricity retailer.
Embedded small business customers
If you get energy from an alternative source or are in an embedded network, like a shopping centre or franchise, contact the Department of Treasury and Finance's Territory Revenue Office.
