Sustainable business solutions grant

The Sustainable Business Solutions (SuBS) grant program supports businesses to reduce their waste and help the Territory transition towards a circular economy.

Grants ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 are available on a co-contribution basis for businesses to purchase equipment or technology aimed at reducing waste and improving recycling outcomes.

Who can apply

Eligible organisations must:

  • be a Territory enterprise — either a for-profit or not-for-profit business.
  • have been operating in the Northern Territory (NT) for more than 12 months.
  • have an existing commercial waste collection service at a site in the NT.
  • be fully compliant with its obligations under its governing legislation.
  • not be an excluded applicant.

Interested businesses must complete a waste assessment as a pre-requisite to apply for the grant program.

What can be funded

Eligible works includes procurement of commercial equipment or technology that meets program objectives to:

  • avoid or prevent waste from being generated on site
  • reuse waste either on site or by another business
  • improve source separation and facilitate waste recycling.

Examples of commercial equipment or technology that may be funded include, but are not limited to:

  • cardboard perforators
  • commercial worm farms
  • small scale compactors,  granulators or shredders
  • organics rapid decomposition units
  • food and waste monitoring equipment.

How to apply

To apply, follow these steps:

Step 1. Read the terms and conditions.

Step 2. Complete an initial waste assessment.

Use the NSW Bin Trim Business App to undertake waste assessment, you can do this with support from a small business champion (SBC). The App will generate a customised action plan as part of the waste assessment.

Step 3: Review the action plan in conjunction with a SBC.

Email SuBS.DITT@nt.gov.au to organise an in-person or telephone appointment with a SBC.

Step 4. Apply online through GrantsNT.

Applications close on 30 June 2025 or sooner if funding is exhausted.

After you apply

You will be notified via GrantsNT of the outcome of your application.
