Freight Subsidy Disaster Assistance

If you’re a primary producer based in a disaster-affected Local Government Area (LGA), you may be eligible for freight subsidy disaster assistance.

This assistance is jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Northern Territory governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

What you can get

Financial assistance is available to primary producers in the Northern Territory (NT) who have been impacted by:

  • ex-Cyclone Ellie and flooding (Australian Government reference number 1045)
  • 2023 Barkly region bushfire (Australian Government reference number 1068)
  • 2024 northern region flooding (Australian Government reference number 1103)
  • 2024 ex-Cyclone Megan and flooding (Australian Government reference number 1116).

Financial assistance can be used for transport freight costs associated with:

  • moving emergency fodder for livestock
  • removal of stock from the affected area
  • replacement of buildings for livestock
  • fencing repairs
  • machinery and equipment associated with livestock or replace animals lost from the event.

If approved, you can get 50% of emergency freight costs up to the value of $5,000.

You are only eligible to apply if you are a primary producer impacted by:

  • ex-Cyclone Ellie in the following flood-affected LGAs :
    • West Daly
    • Roper Gulf
    • Victoria Daly
    • Barkly
    • Central Desert
    • MacDonnell.
  • 2023 Barkly region bushfire-affected LGAs:
    • Barkly
    • Alice Springs
    • Central Desert
    • MacDonnell
    • Roper Gulf.
  • 2024 northern region flood-affected LGAs:
    • Victoria Daly
    • Barkly
    • Litchfield
    • Roper Gulf
    • West Arnhem.
  • 2024 Ex-Tropical Cyclone Megan and associated flooding:
    • Roper Gulf
    • East Arnhem
    • West Arnhem.
