Business Security and Safety Audit Program
If you're a Northern Territory (NT) business you may be eligible to apply for help to access an audit of the security and safety of your premises, including worker safety.
Under the same program, auditors can also register to be a supplier.
About the program
The Business Security and Safety Audit Program helps businesses identify works required to deter and protect its premises and workers from crime and anti-social behaviour.
The program is designed to contribute to the safety and wellbeing of employees.
It will also help with reducing the incidents of:
- anti-social behaviour
- crime
- other security risks.
Who can apply
To get a security audit report, eligible businesses can only use a registered security and safety auditor.
A list of registered security and safety auditors is available through the application process.
You can apply if your business meets the following criteria:
- must operate from a property situated in the NT
- be a Territory Enterprise
- be compliant with all requirements under its governing legislation
- and not be an excluded entity.
Who can’t apply
You can’t apply if you’re any of the following:
- businesses which operate from premises other than fixed premises (for example, mobile businesses)
- publicly listed companies
- home based businesses or businesses operating from residential premises
- government and local government bodies and government related entities such as educational institutions, schools and hospitals
- businesses or organisations operating out of educational institutions/school grounds, including pre-schools.
What you can get
Businesses can apply for a security and safety audit report for each premises it operates from.
Once an application is approved a voucher is issued.
How much the voucher value is depends on where your business is located.
Darwin, Palmerston or the rural area
Your voucher value will be up to $3,000 (GST exclusive).
Outside Darwin, Palmerston and the rural area
Your voucher value will be up to $3,500 (GST exclusive).
What's not funded
Any building works identified in the safety audit report.
When to use
Vouchers must be redeemed within 60 days from the date of issue.
You can also use the voucher for security audit reports if you have approved applications in place for other programs such as:
- BizSecure
- Alcohol Secure and Safety.

Supporting documents
Businesses must include the following documentation:
- liquor licence number - if the business is a licensed premises
- hours the business is open for late night retail - if applicable.
Once the application has been approved, the business can contact their nominated business security and safety auditor to arrange the audit.
