Alcohol Secure and Safety Grant

Eligible Northern Territory (NT) businesses may be able to get help to:

  • increase the security of their liquor stock against theft or damage
  • improve the safety of workers.

The Alcohol Secure and Safety Grant provides financial assistance to liquor licensees. Read below to find out more.

Who can apply

You can apply if you meet the following criteria:

  • be a liquor licensee operating from a premises in the NT
  • be a legal entity that is fully compliant with its liquor licence and its governing legislation
  • hold a valid Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • employ NT residents.

Who can't apply

You can’t apply if you’re any of the following:

  • an individual
  • partnership
  • unincorporated associations or other unincorporated bodies
  • liquor wholesalers
  • businesses which operate from a premise other than a fixed premises i.e. a mobile business
  • special events such as wedding, wake or party at either a licensed premises that is:
    • outside of normal licensed hours
    • or a non-licensed location such as a park or community hall.

What you can get

Eligible businesses can apply for a maximum of $15,000 (GST exclusive) on a 25:75 co-contribution basis. This means you must provide 25% of the total cost.

Businesses can apply for multiple works for each premises from which it operates. The total amount available is capped at $15,000 (GST exclusive) per premises.

Secure product

These are security enhancements that don't impact pedestrian flow or require external or structural compliance.

Works can include:

  • CCTV
  • security screens
  • roller shutters of shelves
  • enclosed cabinets
  • alarm systems.

Workers safety

These are security items which protect workers from anti-social behaviour and crime.

Works can include:

  • barriers or cashier screens
  • alarm systems
  • smoke and cloak distraction systems
  • security lighting.

Businesses must complete all works within six months of receiving the grant.

What's not funded

This program doesn't cover building works that involve more substantial upgrades, such as:

  • roller shutters
  • alterations to the overall building layout.

Business should instead apply under Biz Secure.

Supporting documents you will need

Businesses must include the following documentation:

  • business liquor licence number
  • valid quotes for each item of proposed works
  • any other information that may be requested by the department.
