Introduction
Biosecurity is required to protect the economy, environment and community from the negative impacts of pests, diseases and weeds. These could cause serious harm or disease to people and animals in the Northern Territory (NT).
In the NT, biosecurity focuses on three areas:
- minimising the entry of new pests, diseases and weeds from interstate
- promptly detecting, containing, and eradicating exotic pests, diseases and weeds
- minimising the impacts of introduced pests and diseases on natural systems, culture, livelihoods and lifestyles.
Biosecurity service fees
You are charged fees for all of the following animal biosecurity services:
- tick inspections and treatments
- interstate health certificates for livestock movement
- export certifications
- brands
- waybills
- meat industry licences
- investigations to follow up breaches of the Livestock Act.
