Fire weather forecast areas

Fire weather forecast areas are specific areas identified by climate agencies.

They are used to predict potential fire danger and weather conditions that could contribute to bushfires.

The Northern Territory has 20 fire weather forecast areas.

How forecast areas are defined

Forecast areas are typically defined based on factors such as:

  • climate
  • topography
  • vegetation
  • historical fire data.

Fire bans are issued for specific weather forecast areas.  Make sure you know and understand your local area.
