Equipment subsidy for fire management
If your property is in a fire management zone, you may be able to get up to 50% reimbursed when you buy new fire mitigation equipment.
This is through the Northern Territory (NT) Fire Management Equipment subsidy managed by Bushfires NT.
Limits up to $1,500 for a 3-year period (excluding GST) applies. Subsidy does not include delivery costs.
Scheme round for 2024/2025 is now open. Applications submitted will be processed in the order they are received.
Who can apply
To be eligible, you must:
- be the owner or land manager of the property in a fire management zone
- not have applied for the subsidy within the past three financial years or any previous version
- not have received funding from another source
- not be a volunteer bushfire brigade or ranger group
- buy the equipment from a business that has a significant permanent presence in the NT and employs local residents.
What equipment can you buy
- AccuFire – fire lighter
- Backpack blower
- Delivery hose
- Drip torch - fire lighting (handheld or vehicle mounted)
- Fire trailer - purpose built trailer with a permanently filled tank
- Firefighting water pump unit to suit firefighting units
- Hose fittings camlock type
- Knapsack fire fighter
- Macleod tool or rakehoe
- Nozzles hand piece (dial-a-jet)
- Radio ultra high frequency (UHF) portable mobile*
- Radio very high frequency (VHF) mobile/handheld*
- Repeater repairs and replacement
- Heavy machinery parts eg. tyres and graders
- Replacement tanks for fire-fighting units
- Slip-on fire fighting units
- Suction hose
- Suction hose strainers
- Water tanks – must not be connected to domestic water supplies
*Prior programming must be approved by Bushfires NT.
How to apply
By applying, you fully release Bushfires NT of any loss or damage (including personal injury or death) caused by any works for the scheme.
To apply, follow these steps.
Step 1. Buy approved fire management equipment with a compliant tax invoice.
Step 2. Fill in the:
- fire management equipment subsidy scheme application DOCX (70.2 KB)
- vendor creation or amendment form DOCX (68.2 KB) - if you have not previously received payments from the NT Government
- statement of supplier form (if you don’t have an ABN) - from the Australian Taxation Office website.
Step 3. Attach proof of purchase and the following supporting documents:
- proof of ownership or tenure eg. rates notice, rental agreement or electricity bill
- photo of equipment.
Step 4. Submit your application with relevant forms and supporting documents by email to bushfires.nt@nt.gov.au.
After you apply
Approval is not guaranteed. If approved, your subsidy will be issued within 30 business days.
