Veterans support

    Operation Thrive is a Territory wide initiative to support veterans and their families with:

    • transition, employment and education
    • health and wellbeing
    • respect and recognition.

    The initiative was created based on the real-life experiences and insights of veterans and families in the Territory. It was launched after the Northern Territory (NT) Defence Veterans Strategy PDF (2.8 MB) was released.

    Operation Thrive delivers a range of projects to support the strategy and improve liveability for veterans and their families in the NT.

    Veterans Community Health and Wellbeing Grant

    The Veterans Community Health and Wellbeing Grant offers up to $10,000 to eligible organisations and community groups.

    To be eligible, organisations must deliver activities for the Northern Territory's veteran community from 1 December 2024 to 30 May 2025.

    These activities will also be assessed on how well they:

    • improve veterans' physical or emotional wellbeing
    • foster community building and social connections for veterans
    • are accessible to a broad number of veterans.

    Applications open from 4 October 2024 to 1 November 2024.

    Check your mates

    DefenceNT encourages you to check in on 5 mates, leading to catch ups and conversations to increase wellbeing within the veterans community.

    You can #CheckYourMates by:

    • connecting and making time to meet
    • yarning and taking the time to listen
    • motivating and encouraging action to get support if needed.

    Keeping in touch with your mates allows you to stay updated on their lives. If they're going through a challenging time, a simple phone call and a catch-up session could make a real difference.
