Minister's Advisory Council for Senior Territorians

The Minister’s Advisory Council for Senior Territorians (MACST) provides a voice for Northern Territory (NT) seniors' community on issues of interest and importance through high level and strategic advice to the Minister for Seniors.

The council provides effective links between government and seniors' community to improve policy outcomes.

What the council does

The council is responsible for:

  • advising the minister on matters of importance including emerging issues facing NT seniors
  • exploring the needs of the seniors' community and discussing how service providers can more effectively meet identified needs
  • discussing ideas that promote awareness of the positive aspects of ageing to the community and increase active participation of seniors in all aspects of life
  • directing tasks to working groups as determined to address specific issues.

Membership

Membership on the council is voluntary.

Members are selected based on skills, knowledge, experience and broader community participation or representation. They reflect the regional and indigenous populations of the NT.

Members may also participate in council sub-committees and working groups.

Expressions of interest are open for community members to join the MACST.

Applications are open between Friday 9 May to Friday 30 May.

Members are selected based on skills, knowledge, experience, contribution and interest in matters that apply to senior Territorians. Regional participation is encouraged and may include provisions towards the cost of travel and accommodation.

Meeting schedule and communiques

The committee meets 3 to 4 times a year.

The Office of Senior Territorians will provide secretariat support for the Chair, including organising meetings and recording and distribution of minutes and relevant information.
